The most important moment in the movie, to me, was when the other guy says "But you didn't pull the trigger" and Doss replies "In my heart I did." He knew he was capable of killing but he vowed to never do it.

There’s a “Gomer Pyle” in every platoon,it’s just part of the deal If you go into the military you have to get your mind right. Drill Sergeants yell at thousands of guys a year,don’t take it personal just roll with it and basic is a breeze I doubt the “Gomer” in this platoon enlisted the draft was in full force and a lot of people tried to get out of serving because of the Vietnam war I wonder if todays kids could hack it in the military?
